I cannot begin to comprehend how excited and scared at the same time to be bringing Zari Beauty & Co. to you. This is actually funny because I longed for this day so much, but on the other hand, it makes sense because, like most people, I always want to see the end goal achieved as opposed to intentionally, slowly enjoying the little steps that advance me towards an end goal.
Early last year, after yet another failed business, don’t ask me how many (*as I let out a snicker), I spent so much time in prayer and manifestation for a business idea that would be a game changer in the beauty industry, and nothing came.
A few months down the line, I relocated for a new job in Joburg from Mpumalanga. This was about the time when everyone was slowly transitioning back to the office after the COVID-19 lockdown period.
Being a beauty fanatic, I wore makeup to work every day, literally, every day. My makeup was simple by the least as it included light foundation, concealer, eyeliner, and lipstick. It looked super cute, and I loved it.
But with that said, every single evening, the most daunting task that I never looked forward to, was removing the makeup off my face. It took so much of my time to wrestle with paper-thin makeup remover wipes and tiny cotton pads.
I also noted the increase in my pink tax increase due to extra purchases of single-use makeup remover wipes and pads. But, my biggest discomfort was the weekly piling up of single-use makeup pads and wipes in my bathroom bin. And that, I just couldn’t ignore. All that waste, and most importantly, all of my money, in a bin, lost!!!
The environmentalist in me, (like really, I am a professional Environmental Scientist with a masters degree..) was just like “no maan, something needs to change”.
And that my dear reader (hopefully customer as well, *wink*), Zari Beauty and Co. was born.
